MovingGround stands together in solidarity with all communities of color. Our journey is one of inclusion by recognizing the historic, systemic legacy of oppression, racism and inequity.
MovingGround creates collaboratively devised, ensemble driven, interdisciplinary performance experiences. Our creative processes are based on a commitment to inclusivity, welcoming a diversity of people and their experiences and abilities, and uplifting the stories of historically marginalized peoples. Some of the communities we work with include: military veterans, LGBTQ+ communities, women, people of color, artists, scientists, nonprofit and service-based organizations.
We do so through the following:
- Open workshop auditions
- Collaborative processes based in trust-building practices, working toward equity and inclusion in the room with each individual and unique ensemble
- Ensuring that ensemble participants have authorship over how and by whom their stories are told. In most cases this means that participants are the person to share their own story, or have given us explicitly permission to share their story, according to parameters that they establish.
- We partner with community based organizations, non-profits, educational institutions, arts and culture based organizations, to locate both ensemble and audience participants
In our efforts to become an anti-racist organization, we create this statement with the understanding and commitment to the ongoing work to ensure that our practices and artistic work centralize Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
